Nicolas Van Damme

Nicolas Van Damme holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in law (KU Leuven 2013 and 2020). Between 2015 and 2021, he was affiliated full-time to the Institute of Contract Law at KU Leuven, where he was responsible for practical clinics and seminars in property law and special contracts, and supervised the writing of master’s theses in contract law, negotiation and mediation. Since 2021, Nicolas has been Professor of Economic Law at UCLouvain Saint-Louis in Brussels. Since the 2024-2025 academic year, he has taught the Civil Liability, Insurance Law and Environmental Damage course at the same university. From 2021 to 2023, Nicolas also taught insurance law at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). Nicolas has also been a research associate at the Institute of Contract Law at the KU Leuven since 2021. 

Nicolas is fluently bilingual (FR-NL) and handles cases in the broad area of private contract law and liability. He has in-depth knowledge of these areas from both an academic and a practical perspective. He is the author of numerous publications and a much sought-after speaker at study days. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Revue Générale des Assurances et des Responsabilités (LarcierIntersentia). Nicolas was called to the Brussels Bar in 2013. Since then, he has handled numerous national and international cases for companies and governments in the broad field of contract and real estate law. After obtaining his doctorate, Nicolas joined Tender Law in 2021, from which solvo.legal emerged. 

Nicolas specialises in the following areas: commercial leases, sales, co-ownership, (travel) insurance, general contracting and (extra)contractual liability.
